Camp Opportunity is a camp that will be offered during the week of June 15 – 18, 2015 for middle school students. Up to 120 middle school students, those entering 6th through 8th grade in Fall 2015, will have the opportunity to explore one career per day. It will run from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM daily, Monday through Thursday.
McDowell Technical Community College is partnering with McDowell County Schools to offer Camp Opportunity free of charge (funding is provided by a grant). The Camp will be held at McDowell High School and transportation will be offered through an abbreviated bus route. Some of the sessions will be held on the McDowell Tech/Universal campus and at other locations in the area.
Each day will start with a health/wellness activity to help students understand the importance of eating healthy and staying active. Healthy lunches and snacks will be provided free of charge for the students throughout the week. Students will explore a different career each day by learning about the job responsibilities and enjoying hands-on activities.
